Subterra

After an early introduction to Jungle as far back as 1993, through listening to the likes of Randall, Hype & Frost on Kiss FM as a youngster, Tim Subterra finally took to the decks at the age of 16 in 1999. It wasn’t long after this that he was thrown into the deep end on Millennium eve at the infamous “Raindance” when he was asked to cover a set for an absent DJ in the jungle arena. It was to be the start of a defining decade for the young Guildford DJ.

Over the years that followed he began to make a name for himself through playing on local radio pirate N Joi (now better known as “Kane FM” of which Tim is an integral part), followed by a weekly show on London’s Flex FM. He has also ran his own event “Rotation” successfully in Guildford since 2004, and at the same time held a five year residency at the London-based “Essence of Chi”.

The club bookings escalated as he quickly became well known for his deft mixing skills and diverse selection, and has seen Subterra appear at venues such as Brixton Academy, Coronet, Herbal, Heaven, Scala, Ministry of Sound, and most recently the world famous Matter and Fabric. He has also travelled worldwide, bringing his sound to crowds to the likes of Brazil, Hungary, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, France, Holland, Spain & Portugal. Following a year working at Zinc’s Bingo Beats as label manager in 2007, Subterra was inspired to focus on his own production and releases followed on labels such as Ram sister-label Frequency, Sudden Def, Ruse Records, Rubik, Diverse Products and most recently 31 Records and Noisia’s “Invisible” imprint. Not only releasing his own material but working closely alongside his brother Dekko and a mixture of collaborations with other producers.

Subterra has quickly developed a reputation for being one of the most versatile young dj/ producers in the drum n bass scene, and has every intention of continuing to push the boundaries with his mixing skills, whilst keeping busy in the studio and pleasing crowds wherever he plays.
