DISLTD061 Trex, Blocks / Belly

Trex makes his debut on Dispatch LTD

In light of his recent debut on Dispatch we spoke to Trex about his new single, key influences in and out of the scene and what’s in store for 2019…

Hi Trex, pleased to welcome you onto Dispatch!

Yes very happy to be on board with Dispatch!

How did the tracks ‘Blocks / Belly’ come about?

They were both written just after I sent my album for mastering in the spring. I was just enjoying not mixing down, adjusting or re editing anything for the first time in ages and having fun writing whatever I wanted to. Obviously these two tunes caught the ear of Ant and he snapped them up which was a very happy day for me.

What came first for you; production or DJing?

DJing definitely. From the age of 15 when I got my first set of decks. I mix a lot less when I am at home these days as I always want to write music whenever possible.

Congrats on the release of your ‘High Time’ album! How did the album process differ from normal?

Thank you. Obviously writing a whole body of music is a completely different experience. There is much more invested emotionally and for me I developed a lot as a producer in the 2 years if took to complete. So basically much more of a journey than with an EP or a Single.

Which artists influence you the most, both in and out of DnB?

Break, DLR and Dillinja with regards to production standards and vibes to aspire to. A lot of the Manchester artists are pushing boundaries with their music. I write a lot of Hip Hop/ RnB and Soul music, so for me The Children of Zeus album was pure fire. I still listen to a lot of golden era Hip Hop too.

What cities would you most like to travel to?

Rah so many. I have been lucky in the fact that I’ve done a fair bit of travelling, but there are still so many places I haven’t visited. Hong Kong for the pure culture shock and excitement. LA and the whole West Coast of America in general as I have heard so much about it there from the redwood forests to the Mexican border interests me greatly. I’ve never been to Scandinavia either so any major city there would be amazing.

What Trex material we can expect to hear in 2019?

I have got a lot lined up so far. There is more music coming with you guys on Dispatch, some bits with Sofa Sound, Code, a bunch of remixes from my album and a new EP on Mac2. I have also been working on lots of collabs and will be releasing a various artist jungle album on my label Trust Audio.

Thanks for taking the time to chat to us.
