Ciao Dabs! How are you doing today?

Hi guys, I’m very good this morning, at my second cup of coffee now. I need to accomplish some missions and pack my stuff to leave for Czech Republic, Let it Roll Festival times ahead!

Your fantastic Constant EP is about to be released on Dispatch Recordings. How did it come about?

Thanks for the fantastic! It came about naturally. One day I was walking in my neighbourhood streets and saw the word ‘costante’ on some adverts. It stuck on my mind that the word in English sounded nice and made me think how much music has always been a constant in my life. Fortunately I was clever enough to instantly write that word in my phone notepad. I always forget the best titles, damn!

Did you approach this EP any different to the last two?

Constant, as the title suggests, represents a ‘continuum’ of the previous EPs. The lead track, Objection VIP, is a rework of something I’d already produced and I tried to show a constant will to evolving my sound, always choosing quality over quantity, as I do with food (I’m clearly lying haha).

How did it feel to be back into the studio with Cern?

When I was in Bristol for a gig, Ollie (Cern) said to me: ‘we need to do something as strong as Back in the Grind remix, but no remix’ – and that’s what we did. It was good to collaborate again; I’ve been playing Alter Ego every set for months!

Now since you are born and bred in Italy we need to know… What is your #1 meal post studio? You have some competition from Survival here!

Thick spaghetti with fresh tomato sauce and basil from my balcony – I could easily pass the masterchef selection with that.

What are your favourite pieces of equipment right now?

My drum-kit library I made over the years – it’s always the most precious tool. I’m actually abusing the Virus TI for Basslines and pads too. Plus add some forks and knives on a square tablecloth – just for the environment and my guests. Salute.

What’s next for Dabs and your own label, Avantgarde?

A big plan for early 2015 is to have a South African mini-tour, so SA promoters get in touch! We have some good plans for Avantgarde. A new V/A LP called ‘Theory of the Avant-Garde’ – “Cosmos” will be available on digital and CD, featuring Hydro, HLZ, L 33, Need for Mirrors, Arp Xp, Heavy 1, Gremlinz, myself etc. plus some some new Italian and European talents. On vinyl, we are planning some big remixes!
